Diabetes Bible Study - Being Broken Means You Can Be Fixed

Psalm 147:3

"He heals the brokenhearted
And binds up their wounds"

Losing weight is difficult even when diabetes isn't in the picture.   All the cravings, wants and desires that go along with having too much fat on your body make it a tough job.   Some people find it easy to start a weight loss plan, while others seem to try over and over to shed the pounds, only to find themselves in another weight loss plan or trying another fad diet that may make their wallets lighter while the pounds stay.

The word "broken" is related to weight loss in two ways.  First, the addiction. obsession, fascination we have with food has to be broken, crushed, smashed and collapsed, in no uncertain terms.  Just like a twig is broken in half and thrown on the ground and smashed underfoot.  Second,  part of not being able to lose weight can leave us brokenhearted.  Feelings of guilt, pain, hurt and other emotions can hinder your plans to lose weight in a major way.

If you think about being addicted to food, it's something you may have wanted to get rid of for years.   You might have agonized over it, thinking that you'll never be able to lose weight.  Then the diabetes came into the picture and oh boy….that was just the icing on the cake!   But don't despair. This addiction to food CAN be broken WITH the diabetes in your life, by the power the Jesus gives to each believer.

Defeating an addiction is possible since we are MORE (not just by the skin of our teeth---not by a little) but we are MORE (plenty left over) than conquerors (to totally defeat---to give no mercy or favor---to break completely and stop from coming back) (Romans 8:37)---and HOW do we get this "power" to  break our addictions? How is this done?---through Him (Jesus) that loved you!
