Diabetes Bible Study - Being Strong

2 Chronicles 15:7

Being strong and not weak?  What does that really mean?  Does it mean being successful in EVERYTHING that you do in life?  Does it mean never taking "No" for an answer?  Or maybe it means being so confident with yourself that you let no one and nothing stand in your way!

Well, it’s a little of all of the above.  Being strong in the Lord does means you’ll be successful, but sometimes that success will come through a failure.   Being strong, means being able to deal with things not going your way too.   When you think about it, isn’t the time you fail the time when you really need to be determined and diligent?  When things are going well with our diabetes management plans, sometimes we can think we’re on "cruise control" and everything will just keep moving in a good way.  But the second we get a high blood glucose reading, or when we get a diabetes complication we’re ready to give up.

That’s the time when your faith can help you.  Remember, that God is there for you when you’re up AND when you’re down.  He’s there even when you can’t do anything but sit and cry.  Getting through the rough spots in life takes strength.  The strength to let God carry your through the pain and misery.  Diabetes is something that feeds on you taking care of yourself (which we sometimes don’t want to hear).  We have to work at it, and being strong is a major part of that diabetes work ethic.

APPLICATION

1.  Try to remember a time when you felt like you had failed in your diabetes management plan and gave up.  Think about how having strength in the Lord would have helped you.  Having strength in the Lord might mean, staying strong even though people around you tell you that you can't succeed.  Knowing God is helping you can get you through those difficult times. What would you have done differently?

2.  Remember these words, "Even when I think I’m weak.  I’m strong because God loves me and is helping me."

3.  The next time you test your blood glucose remember that your self-esteem, self-worth and place in life isn’t measured by the number on that meter.  That number just lets you know how your body is using fuel.
