Diabetes Bible Study - Common Sense
Luke 5: 4- 6
"Now when he had left speaking, he said unto
Simon,
Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a
draught. And Simon answering said unto him, Master,
we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing:
nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net. And
when they had done this, they inclosed a great multitude
of fishes: and their net brake."
“Common sense” is thought to be some of the best advice we can get. It’s supposed to take us
to the most common denominator and leave us without any doubts. Common sense is supposed to be so overriding that no other solutions
should come into play. We’ve all heard the line, “Come on. That’s just plain common sense!”
When it comes to obedience to God, common sense may not be what is needed. We can see in the
scripture that even though Christ told Simon to put his net into the water, Simon was still holding on to his “common sense” and telling himself
that it wouldn’t do any good. After all, they had been there all night without catching any fish. But what happened
when Simon obeyed God? His net was full of fish! So full that the net fell to pieces from all the weight of the
fish!
It’s the same for us. We may think we’re defeated from things that have happened in the past.
Our common sense might tell us not to try any more. People may tell us that we’ve tried too much and should just give up and accept the fact that
we can’t succeed. But this scripture plainly shows us that obeying God brings on the supernatural power of the Lord in our
lives. When you obey God you’re not just working with your own natural senses and talents….God steps in and helps you in a way
that only He can do.
So, don’t take your “common sense” too seriously. Use your God-given supernatural
senses….they’re much better, more powerful, more profitable and always available.
