Diabetes Bible Study - Denial
Psalm 36:2
1 Corinthians 10:13
Proverbs 16:18
Denial can creep into any diabetes management plan. It doesn’t matter if you’re newly diagnosed or if you’ve had
diabetes in your life for many years. The only way to describe denial is as something false and untrue, that we take as truth to
cover our fear or pride. Yes, it might "feel" like something else, but by definition denial hides the truth, which makes it a
falsehood.
Let’s take a look at denial and what it’s made of:
Lying: You might find yourself writing false numbers in your blood glucose record book. You may also be telling your doctor
false stories about being "in control" of your diabetes.
Pride: You may think you’re too strong to have to change your habits. You think having diabetes is a sign of weakness so
you can’t let anyone know you’re having problems dealing with it.
The Creeping Old Man: You may find it difficult to stop your old habits from creeping back into your day. You feel that it’s
hopeless to even try to change the way you eat and live. You feel like the temptations are too powerful.
(1 Corinthians 10:13)
APPLICATION:
1) Write down a list of "old man" things you need to change in your life.
2) Try to change 1 habit on your list each week (month?)
3) Learn 1 Scripture this week to say to yourself when you find yourself in a tough diabetes management situation.
