Diabetes Bible Study - Talking To Others
Talking to others about the diabetes in your life can get frustrating at times. Try to understand that
sometimes people don't understand a lot about diabetes. They might need a little help from you understanding about diabetes management and
having diabetes in your life.
Colossians 4:5,6
"Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every
opportunity. Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt,
so that you may know how to answer everyone."
The way we act toward people who ask us about the diabetes in our lives may not always be
the best responses we can give. People might come up to us and question our eating habits, or they might say things to us
that tend to blame us for the disease. It’s not that they truly blame us for the disease, but they are misinformed about how
diabetes occurs and/or is diagnosed.
So, when things like this happen, should we shoot back with a quick, frustrated response? Maybe something to the effect of
“Mind your own business.”? No. As this scripture says, we have to be careful about EVERYTHING we say to people, even to
those people who are misinformed and may be saying things to us that are hurtful.
Knowing how to answer everyone includes answering those who get “on your nerves” so be
ready for it. It may happen many times a day…but you CAN come through it with God’s grace.
