Diabetes Bible Study - Turning Down Good Things
Genesis 4:7
Psalm 46:1
Luke 4:1-13
"Oh, that pie looks soooooo good!", or maybe it’s the television show that’s on while you’re supposed to be doing your
exercises. How about the extra half hour you waited to test because you didn’t want to leave your friends?
Turning down so-called "good" things can be difficult at times. This life is supposed to be happy all the time,
right? No..<g Sometimes we have to do things we find difficult, awkward, or down right scary in order to reach our
goals. When it comes to diabetes, this is often the case. After all, who WANTS to stick themselves three times a day and then
eat something we don’t necessarily want to eat?
If you find yourself in trying times when you think you can’t resist a temptation, say a Scripture to yourself. If your memory isn’t
too good find a short Scripture like 2 Corinthians 5:7 (For we walk by faith, not by sight) and say that quietly to yourself, since God’s word is
the "sword" to use when sin tries to take over (Ephesians 6:17)
Giving in to what we want or desire isn’t always the best way to live life. But striving to do our best can be just as
gratifying. It might not be as quick as giving in, but the benefits are much more valuable.
Application:
1) Memorize a Scripture to use when you feel tempted to do something that goes against your diabetes management plan.
2) Use this Scripture (put it into practice) when you feel tempted.
3) Write this Scripture down on a piece of paper and carry it with you, or tape it some place where you can see it regularly.
