Diabetes Bible Study - We're Not Perfect
Colossians 1:21, 22
Diabetes is full of numbers, figures, goals and expectations. We’re always trying to reach a preset level of blood
glucose and if we don’t achieve it, we have to readjust our actions and try again the next day. With all this planning and
re-adjusting it’s easy to get frustrated when things don’t turn out perfect.
Remembering that we’re not perfect can help a lot in diabetes management. Blood glucose levels don’t listen to reasoning
no matter how hard we might try to nudge it into a certain level. When things don’t go right it’s important to remember the
forgiveness that Jesus died for. We’re not robots who can program our bodies to react in a certain way. We’re human
beings who make mistakes, don’t always follow the rules and may even challenge the knowledge and learning we’ve acquired about
diabetes.
Jesus knew out weaknesses, inadequacies, sinfulness, and still shed his blood for us. So, the next time something goes wrong
with your diabetes management plan ask for God’s forgiveness and know that He doesn’t hold it against you. And you shouldn’t hold it
against yourself. See each diabetes experience as a learning period…and use the knowledge you do have to be the best diabetes manager you
can be.
APPLICATION:
1) If you feel you haven’t been doing your best with your diabetes management plan ask God for forgiveness.
2) Get an empty mayonnaise or some other jar and keep it in a convenient place. Each day write one thing you’ve done that’s good for
your diabetes management plan on a piece of paper and place it in the jar. Read the notes once a week for some quick motivation.
3) Remember this phrase, "I’m not perfect…I’m forgiven."
